If ever there was an English bon vivant; a master of culture, a lewd, crude performer of Jazz and a respected art critic for the Times.. It was George Melly; a total and utter English one off and I loved his style. So, here I’m celebrating his vivacity and larger than life approach to performing jazz. His quartet would tour the nether regions of the jazz scene one minute and be lording it on Parkinson the next. I have placed a swallow/Hirundel bird near his outstretched hand as a nod to the hunger he had to travel anywhere the best food was, i.e the best money. A true and unashamed  old schooler. So here he is in all his pomp. I love this piece. xx
